Living in Bucks County, many of us are aware that we are a “hop,
skip and a jump” to many local attractions. However, if you have lived here for
a while you may not be aware of the things you can do on a weekend excursion
throughout Bucks County, Philadelphia County, or even Chester County. Here are
some places you can visit for quick day trips during the week and on the
weekends!
Nockamixon
State Park is located in Quakertown, and borders both Bedminster and
Haycock Townships. The park is a haven for boaters, fishermen, hikers, and
those who enjoy mountain biking. There are picnic areas, horseback riding, and
environmental education programs such as pontoon boat tours. Nockamixon also
has camping facilities with the option to rent a cabin or stay in the Weisel
Hostel. It is a wonderful state park for all ages and is home to many different
types of wildlife.
If you love going to farmer’s markets, the Reading Terminal Market in
Philadelphia is a great day trip your whole family will enjoy. Vendors include
Amish specialties (not open on Sundays due to religious reasons), seafood,
meats and poultry, fresh vegetables and fruits, homemade baked goods, and even
fresh cut flowers, linens and kitchen accessories.
Visiting covered bridges throughout Chester and Bucks County is a relaxing
and enjoyable way to spend a Saturday.
You can stop for a picnic alongside a back road while viewing gorgeous covered
bridges traveled upon by our ancestors. Some covered bridges throughout our
area are Harmony Hill located on Harmony Hill Road in West Chester Glen Hope located
in Elk Township, Sheard’s Bridge in Perkasie and Uhlerstown Bridge in Tinicum.
