Great places for a walk

Let’s face it – we have all been snowed in for the last couple of months. Since spring has officially arrived, the weather is perfect for walking around our neighborhoods and local parks. Walking is a great way to work off those winter pounds, get yourself in shape, and look great for the summer months.

Many of us walk around our neighborhoods and developments, and never seem to think of visiting local parks for a “change of scenery”. Walking in parks and on trails through the woods takes your mind off of the idea of “exercising”, which in turn will make your walk a very enjoyable and entertaining experience. Listening to the birds, watching wildlife, and even taking the time to smell the flowers will enlighten and enhance your walk to the next level.

Throughout Bucks County, there are some great parks where you can enjoy your walk, play some tennis, or even take part in a guided tour of the grounds. Some of those parks are Silver Lake Park and Nature Center, Tinicum Park, Lake Towhee Park and Peace Valley Park.

Simple and Inexpensive Home Repairs

Most of us are very guilty of doing “lazy home repair”. Let’s face it, you start a project such as painting a room and never finish it completely. You might think you finished it, but did you paint the molding, finish the trim, and give the ceiling a fresh coat of paint? More than likely, you didn’t. That’s ok – many of us are very guilty of doing the same.

If you are constricted in trying to get a home repair project done over the weekend, the trick is to not try to do too much at one time. Here are some ideas of simple projects you can do in your home over a weekend that won’t break the bank.

Check your driveway for cracks. You can purchase driveway caulk and repair the cracks and gaps that have appeared on your driveway and sidewalk. Be sure to follow the instructions on the caulk to ensure proper drying.

Trim hedges and bushes. It’s not too early to get your hedges and bushes looking great for spring! Trimming them now will also help to promote new growth.

Install a new front door, or paint your current one. Giving your front door a new look does wonders for the look of your home. After all, the front door does really give the first impression!

Organize your garage. Over the winter, more than likely your garage has many items strewn about. More than likely, the snowblower, shovel and salt still haven’t been put away. Get the garage back in order by making sure your tools are all back in their home, boxes are on shelves, and everything has a place. Sweep out your garage and use a bug spray to start preventing them from coming into your home.

Get Your Home Ready For Spring

It’s here! After all the snow, cold weather, snow, potholes, snow, ice storms – and snow. We have finally entered springtime! Congratulations Bucks County residents! We have survived!

Now that it’s getting warmer and warmer each day, it’s the perfect time to get our homes and yards ready for the spring and summer months. Of course, all of us know that it means bugs are on their way allergies will be on the rise. Our lawns will soon need to be cut.

To make your transition easier, here are some ways you can enjoy the warmer weather without having to spend your time indoors (we all had enough of that during the winter).

While the neighborhood kids are running around outside, enjoy the sounds of their laughter while cleaning out the flower beds removing any rotted plants and debris. Be sure to check your garden hoses for cracks and wear. Cut back overgrown shrubs and trees. Clean your grill for those well-deserved cookouts Walk around the perimeter of your home and search for ants or other insects that may have already started to make their way indoors. If any bugs have gotten inside already, be sure to spray or call a local exterminator before the infestation gets worse.

If you haven’t spent enough time inside your home yet, this is a great time of the year to renovate a room or two with a fresh color of paint.  You could dust ceiling fans and baseboards, wash windows, and shampoo your carpets. For fresh air it is nice to open the windows for a little while. It is a wonderful change after being snowed in!
