Day Trips Close To Yardley and Surrounding Areas

Living in Bucks County, many of us are aware that we are a “hop, skip and a jump” to many local attractions. However, if you have lived here for a while you may not be aware of the things you can do on a weekend excursion throughout Bucks County, Philadelphia County, or even Chester County. Here are some places you can visit for quick day trips during the week and on the weekends!

Nockamixon State Park is located in Quakertown, and borders both Bedminster and Haycock Townships. The park is a haven for boaters, fishermen, hikers, and those who enjoy mountain biking. There are picnic areas, horseback riding, and environmental education programs such as pontoon boat tours. Nockamixon also has camping facilities with the option to rent a cabin or stay in the Weisel Hostel. It is a wonderful state park for all ages and is home to many different types of wildlife.

If you love going to farmer’s markets, the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia is a great day trip your whole family will enjoy. Vendors include Amish specialties (not open on Sundays due to religious reasons), seafood, meats and poultry, fresh vegetables and fruits, homemade baked goods, and even fresh cut flowers, linens and kitchen accessories.

Visiting covered bridges throughout Chester and Bucks County is a relaxing and  enjoyable way to spend a Saturday. You can stop for a picnic alongside a back road while viewing gorgeous covered bridges traveled upon by our ancestors. Some covered bridges throughout our area are Harmony Hill located on Harmony Hill Road in West Chester Glen Hope located in Elk Township, Sheard’s Bridge in Perkasie and Uhlerstown Bridge in Tinicum.

Staging Your Home For A Quick Sale

When selling your home, staging is a very important step in the sale process. Many agents will agree – a home that is staged will sell much faster. What is “staging your home”? Staging is the process used that allows for excellent showing experiences to please buyers. When your home is staged successfully, a potential buyer will feel as if they could move into your home today!

When staging your home, think of the following tips:

Stage only the main living areas, master bedroom and bath. You don’t need to stage all of the bedrooms, bathrooms or the playroom. However, the main living areas are a must.  Be sure all the magazines and books in the living room are picked up and presented neatly on a coffee table or side table. Check that no toys are strewed about and the floors are vacuumed or swept. In the master bedroom, ensure your bed is made and clothes are picked up.  Your master bath should be picked up as well (towels are off the ground, toothbrushes are in the holders, and brushes are placed in drawers).

Get rid of clutter.  Your personal photos will not allow the buyer to fully experience what it would be like to live in your home. Remove personal photos from the walls or tables, and remove excess furniture if you are able to do so. Creating more space will make your home look bigger to the buyer..

Make sure your home smells nice. Sounds odd, but a home that smells inviting is much more pleasing to buyers. Before a showing or open house, light a scented candle (or you may leave a scented candle with matches for your agent). You could also leave a bowl of potpourri in the bathroom or bake a pie leaving it on the counter allowing the scent to flow throughout the house.

Moving With Pets

Pets are great to have around the house. They provide entertainment, love, friendship, compassion, and literally become a member of many families.

When you are moving, having a pet can turn into a nightmare. You need to consider the well-being of your pet while taking into consideration stress levels and emotions.  Moving can cause your pet to become depressed, scared and anxious. Here are some tips from the ASPCA on how to handle moving your pet(s) into a new home – making the moving process an enjoyable experience for all!

When packing, let your pets (especially cats and dogs), explore and sniff the boxes. Cats especially do not handle change very well.  Allowing them to adjust through their senses will make the moving process easier.

Most animals do not spend much time (if any) in crates.  However, crates can be very convenient when you are moving. If you are planning on using a crate for your cat or dog, drive around the neighborhood and allow them to get used to the crate slowly.  As time goes by, increase the amount of time your pet spends in the crate, and if it’s possible, you can even drive them to the new home while in the crate. On moving day, it will make your moving experience much easier – and you more than likely will not deal with a whining dog or cat.

Upon entering your new home, keep your dog(s) on a leash and walk them around the house. Dogs and cats can smell things that we cannot smell.  For example, they can smell accidents from previous pets in the house. Bring your pets into one room in the house and allow them to adjust slowly. Make sure they have all their favorite toys.  Most importantly, spend time with them so they feel secure.
